The Centrist Democracy Political Institute (CDPI)
The Centrist Democracy Political Institute (CDPI) is a non-profit organization founded in September 2010 by Mr. Lito Monico C. Lorenzana.
CDPI’s vision is a Philippines where all its citizens can live in dignity and given the opportunity to participate actively in the democratic process.
Its mission is to support the ideals of centrist democratic individuals, movements and parties in the Philippines and help design and implement their political programs in a functioning democracy; a socially and ecologically responsible market economy; a decentralized state structure; and the pursuit of a lasting peace and sustainable development in Mindanao and all regions of the country.
Since its inception CDPI has conducted nationwide leadership and trainors’ training seminars for young professional leaders and active citizens strengthening their understanding of the social, political and economic realities - with the end in view of disseminating the same to their communities. To date, 300 politically astute professionals were trained across the country developing their skills in organizing and leadership formation.
Background
The Centrist Democratic Party’s quest to bring about political reforms and give back real democracy to the Filipino people necessitates the formation of a well-organized campaign towards the capture of political power. This will introduce an enabling environment for sustainable human development, empowering the poor, ensuring environmental sustainability, and establishing the foundations for peace and development, among others.
The Party cannot afford to maintain a membership of only a few thousand members. It needs to promote its goodwill. It has to establish its presence in many more parts of the country. Early on the party’s leadership has sought to organize a party with a strong national network to institutionalize its work of reducing patronage politics and fighting corruption in the Philippines.
There is need for an organization with the capacity for:
- Active exercise of their rights and citizenship role to promote good governance, effective and efficient service delivery;
- Effective networking with civil society organizations, media, and private sector groups;
- Policy formulation, enforcement, and adjudication; economic and fiscal management and civil service administration; and
- Critical engagements with government and state institutions especially with LGUs.
Goals
This Advanced Course on Centrist Democracy: Advocacy, Recruitment, Mobilization Training Framework seeks to address the requirements of capacity building at various levels of the Party structure in order to guide organizational development work and establish the initiative at the regional and district levels.
The objective of such training system is to help jumpstart the growth and expansion of the Party by creating the capacity for strategic action at the regional and district levels of the Organization.
Party Capacity Development Strategy
The Party’s capability development strategy will center initially on the establishment of a small core group of first trainors who will develop a second level of trainors who in turn would take charge of the trainings and membership expansion and other human development activities at the local and district levels in as many localities in Luzon, in the Visayas and in Mindanao.
It is proposed that a total of three hundred (300) individuals will be trained for the first level that will then comprise the national core group of Party trainors.
