The Automated Election System Watch, through Dr. Nelson Celis, has been asking the Commission on Elections (Comelec or our state poll body) to promulgate a set of implementing rules and regulations (IRR) for the implementation and enforcement of the Automated Election Law, Republic Act No. 8436 as amended by Republic Act No. 9369.

Even if the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will push through this month, there will be no candidates who will be able to participate in both polls.

This comes after Commission on Election (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said in her official Twitter account the poll body decided to forgo the filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) for the two elections, which was scheduled from October 3 to 5.

BELIEVE it or not: Children or close relatives of elected officials are not allowed to run in the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) election on Oct. 31.

Under Republic Act No. 10742, or the SK Reform Act of 2015, candidates should not be related within the second degree of consanguinity or affinity to any incumbent, elected national official; or to any incumbent regional, provincial, city, municipal, or barangay official, in the locality where he/she seeks to be elected.

MANILA, July 14 (PIA) -- Those interested to run in the forthcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) posts may file their Certificate of Candidacy starting October 3 up to October 5.

This is based on the Calendar of Activities listed in Comelec Resolution No. 10151.
