PH, Vietnam to forge six-year action plan

DAVAO CITY – President Rodrigo R. Duterte and Vietnam president Tran Dai Quang have agreed to establish a six-year action plan that will take effect beginning 2017 that will shore up the cooperation and boost strategic partnership of the two ASEAN countries in areas of security, defense and trade.



“In my meeting with President Tran Dai Quang, we committed to ramp up bilateral exchanges to boost our strategic partnership. We agreed to increase exchanges between our officials and peoples and establish a six-year action plan starting 2017 for the implementation of activities in the areas of common interest,” he said in his arrival speech early Friday at the Francisco Bangoy International Airport.

Duterte added they also agreed to improve the volume and achieve a more balanced trade and investments by enhancing the business environment to make it more conducive for investors of each country.

He said that business leaders from the Philippines and Vietnam companies have met for possible business partnerships.

The president said that he also discussed with the Vietnamese president how the two nations can work together in strengthening existing maritime cooperation mechanisms to ensure the safety and security of the fishermen of both countries and intensify law enforcement against transnational crime, most especially the illegal drugs operations.
